Is there a tool that prints a label the moment someone wins on Whatnot?
Yes. LiveStreamPro prints an item label as each sale lands: when an auction ends with a winner, when a Buy It Now item sells, and when a giveaway is won. The label carries the item, the buyer’s username and a barcode, so the item is tagged for its box before you pick up the next one. The shipping label is a separate document. Whatnot issues it, and LiveStreamPro prints it when the order ships.
Two labels, printed at two different moments
Sellers asking for a label "when someone wins" usually mean one of two things, and they print at different times.
- The item label, at the win. A small label that goes on the item itself, or on its bag or sleeve. It says what the item is and who won it, so nothing on your table is unidentified by the end of the show.
- The shipping label, when the order ships. The carrier label is made by Whatnot, not by you and not by us. When Whatnot produces it for an order, LiveStreamPro sends that exact document to your shipping printer, and the packing slip for the same order prints alongside it.
LiveStreamPro does not sell postage or make its own carrier labels. What it removes is the part in between: nobody opens an order screen, downloads a file, or chooses a printer.
What prints when someone wins
Printing at the win is an automation rule: when this happens in the show, print a label. The three sale events it reacts to are an auction ending, a Buy It Now item selling, and a giveaway being won. An auction that ends with no winner prints nothing, because there is nothing to pack.
By default the item label carries the item title, the buyer’s username, and a barcode that identifies the listing. That barcode is what lets a scan at the packing table open the right shipment later. You can add your own conditions to a rule, for example to print only for items that have a SKU.
The rule runs through the extension on your show tab, which is the one thing that is always open while you are live, and a live feed shows each rule as it fires. The automatic printing page covers what prints on its own and when.
What you need
- The LiveStreamPro Chrome extension, running on the tab where your Whatnot show is open.
- The print helper, a small program installed once on the computer the printer is attached to. That does not have to be the computer you host from.
- A printer that computer already has. There is no supported-model list. The label goes to any printer installed on that machine, thermal or laser, because what is sent is a finished page.
- Labels in a size you chose. Item labels can be set to any of twenty thermal sizes, from 1x1 inch up to 4x6. The usual setup is a small label such as 2x1 for items and 4x6 for shipping labels.
Before you go live, a test print sends a real job to the printer and tells you if it did not come out. The print helper page and the labels and templates page have the detail.
Do I need two printers?
No. One printer can print every kind of label. LiveStreamPro assigns a printer to each kind of label (item, packing slip, shipping), and the same printer can be assigned to more than one kind.
Two printers is about label stock, not software. Item labels are small and shipping labels are 4x6, so with one thermal printer you either print both on the same stock or change rolls between the show and the packing. With two, a small printer sits by the host for item labels and a 4x6 printer sits at the packing table, and they can be on different computers in different rooms. The print stations page explains how each kind of label finds its printer.
When a label does not come out
A printer that fails quietly is worse than no automation, because you find out at the packing table. Every print job is tracked, a job that does not reach paper is flagged where you can see it during the show, and you can retry it from the alert. If no printer is set up when a label is due, the label waits and prints when one is. The same label is never printed twice for one shipment. See print reconciliation, and for the packing side, how to scan and pack your orders after a show.
