$11.59, for a seller (United States) with four-week sales of $0 to $14,999 selling in the Other category: $8.00 commission at 8%, and $3.59 payment processing on the $113.40 the buyer pays once shipping and tax are added. You keep $88.41.
Sell more and the commission falls. After $100,000 to $249,999 of sales in four weeks (Tier 4) the same sale pays 4% commission, Whatnot takes $7.59, and you keep $92.41. Payment processing does not change with your tier.

Find your four-week sales along the top of the table and your category down the side. The tier you reach in one period sets your rate for the next, tiers reset every 28 days, and every period starts from zero. Commission is charged on the item's sale price only. The seller fees article, stamped 1 October 2026, no longer lists it in the rate tables for markets with tiers. So this calculator leaves it off unless you turn it on, and the rate on your own order receipts is the one to trust. Sports breaks and Surprise Products are excluded.

Where the money goes
- The flat fee does not scale down. $0.30 on a $1.00 sale is 30% of the hammer price on its own. On a $100 sale the same fee is a rounding error.
- You pay a percentage on money you never receive. 2.9% is charged on the whole order total, so $0.44 of this fee falls on the shipping and tax that pass straight through to the carrier and the tax authority.
- Commission is the small part. Whatnot charges commission on the item's sale price only, excluding shipping and tax. On a $1.00 item that is $0.08. The fee that hurts here is not the commission.
- Lighter shipping, better outcome. The same $1.00 sale with $5.00 shipping instead nets $0.43, an effective rate of 57.0% rather than 85.0%.
Worked examples
Every scenario in the calculator above, computed. Whatnot seller fees (United States, tiered since 21 September 2026): commission depends on the category and on the seller’s total sales over a four-week period, which set the rate for the next 28 days. With four-week sales of $0 to $14,999 it is 8% of the item sale price (4% for Coins); at $500,000 or more it is 4% to 6.5% depending on category (3.5% for Coins). Commission is charged on the sale price only, excluding shipping and tax. Payment processing is 2.9% of the total order value (item + buyer-paid shipping + buyer-paid tax) plus $0.30 per transaction. Net earnings = sale price - commission - payment processing, minus any shipping the seller covers. Each win is a separate transaction, so bundling a buyer’s wins into one shipment does not reduce fees.

How much does Whatnot take from a $100 sale?
It depends on your category and your sales tier. A US seller with four-week sales of $0 to $14,999, selling a $100 item in the Other category with $5.00 buyer-paid shipping and 8% tax, pays $8.00 commission (8%) and $3.59 payment processing (2.9% of the $113.40 order total plus $0.30). Whatnot takes $11.59 and you keep $88.41. The same sale after $100,000 to $249,999 in four-week sales (Tier 4) pays 4% commission, so Whatnot takes $7.59 and you keep $92.41.
Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping?
Commission, no. Whatnot calculates commission on the sale price of the item, and shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included. Payment processing, yes: it is 2.9% of the total the buyer pays, which includes the item price, buyer-paid shipping and taxes, plus $0.30 per transaction. So you do pay a percentage on money that passes straight through to the carrier and the tax authority, but it is the 2.9%, not the commission.
What are Whatnot’s commission tiers, and when do they reset?
Since 21 September 2026 your commission rate depends on your total sales, across all categories, over a four-week period. That total puts you in one of 7 tiers, and the tier sets your rate per category for the next four-week period. In the US the first tier covers $0 to $14,999 and the top published tier starts at $500,000 or more. A Sports or TCG sale pays 8% at the first tier and 6.5% at the top; the Other category goes from 8% to 4%. How do I find out which tier I am in?
Whatnot shows your current tier, your pace toward the next one and your projected rate on the Seller Hub home page, and the exact rate charged on any order is in that order’s receipt and earnings details. Pick your four-week sales range in the calculator and it shows the tier and the rate it used.
How do I get the 3% rate?

Does combining a buyer’s wins into one order lower the fees?
No. Fees are charged per transaction, each time a buyer checks out, even when the purchases are later bundled into one shipment. Five wins pay five commissions, five percentages, and five $0.30 fees. Combining saves postage and packing, not fees.
Why does a $1 sale barely pay anything?
Because the $0.30 transaction fee does not scale down, and the 2.9% is charged on the shipping and tax as well. A $1.00 item that costs the buyer $14.00 to ship pays $0.08 commission and $0.77 processing, leaving you $0.15. Cheap lots only work as a way to move volume or fill a show, never as margin.
What changes if I offer free shipping?
You absorb the postage, and it comes straight out of your take-home. A $40.00 item with $8.00 shipping nets you $35.00 when the buyer pays and $27.25 when you cover it. Your payment processing fee is slightly lower when you cover shipping, because the buyer pays less at checkout, but nowhere near enough to offset the postage.
What is the 0% commission above $1,500?
A promotion in some categories: normal commission on the first $1,500 of an item’s sale price and 0% on the part above it, with payment processing still charged on the full amount. Do sellers outside the US pay the same rates?
No. Whatnot sets thresholds and rates per market. In the UK commission starts at 6.67% plus VAT, its first tier covers £0 to £9,999 of four-week sales, and payment processing is 2.42% plus £0.25, plus VAT. Canada and Australia have their own sales bands. Japan has no tiers yet: 8% plus JCT, 4% on coins, with processing of 2.9% plus 50 yen. Choose where you sell in the calculator and the table follows.
Are there listing fees or monthly fees?
No. Whatnot does not charge to create, store, or manage listings. You pay when an item sells.
Do giveaways cost me seller fees?
No. Whatnot does not charge seller fees on giveaways, because the buyer pays nothing. You still cover the shipping, so budget giveaways as marketing spend rather than treating them as free.
What about commission-free days and other promotions?
This calculator uses Whatnot’s published rate card, so it shows what you keep on a normal day. Whatnot runs limited-time promotions, and says a promotional rate overrides your tier rate while it lasts and that those sales still count toward your next tier. Promotions start and end on Whatnot’s schedule, so check its current announcements before you price a show around one.
Do these numbers include my taxes?
No, and the difference matters. Everything here is a platform fee that Whatnot deducts from a sale. Income tax is separate, comes out of your profit rather than the sale, and depends on where you live and how you are set up. Treat the take-home figure here as revenue before tax, not as profit.
