Random break

A break format where every spot costs the same and teams or slots are assigned by a randomizer only after all the spots have sold.

In a random break, every spot costs the same and nobody knows what they own until the buying closes. Once all the spots are sold, the seller runs a randomizer on stream to assign teams or slots to buyers, and only then does the opening begin. The appeal is that you are buying at a flat price rather than paying up for the strong teams.

The randomization is the trust moment of the format. Buyers watch it happen live, which is exactly why sellers run it on camera, state the method before taking money, and never change it midway. A random break where the assignment happens off screen is a random break nobody comes back to.

Operationally, randoms are simpler to price than team breaks and harder to track, because the buyer-to-team mapping does not exist until the randomizer has run. Record it the moment it happens. Reconstructing who got which team from memory at pack-out is how cards end up in the wrong boxes.
